Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –NM’s trial vs Meta Platforms ended last week with a victory and Thursday the state asked a judge to order the social media giant to pay a hefty sum of up to $40 billion. Randi McGinn, NM’s attorney on the case against Meta, said the judgement “It would serve the purpose of deterrence, not just for Meta but for any big company that would lie to the people of New Mexico.” An Attorney for Meta responded by proposing a judgment ranging from $345 million to $3.45 billion but also stating the company is likely to appeal any judgment. The jury in the case found that Meta violated NM’s Unfair Practices Act. A financial penalty on the case is expected by late October.
