ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque Police are investigating a fatal crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian that occurred late Tuesday night near Central Avenue NE and Alvarado Drive SE.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the area shortly before midnight on Sept. 22 after receiving reports of a collision involving a pedestrian.
Investigators say a black 2011 Jeep was traveling eastbound on Central Avenue when it struck a pedestrian who was in the roadway south of the median near the intersection with Alvarado Drive.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment. Investigators also determined that excessive speed does not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation by APD’s Fatal Crash Unit.
The identity of the pedestrian has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
