Santa Fe, NM (KKOB)- Santa Fe Police Department Interim Chief Ben Valdez reports that their “Drone as a First Responder Program”, which launched this week is fully operational, and the technology has already helped them respond to calls more effectively.

He said although drones are nothing new to the department, after years of deploying drones from patrol vehicles – after officers get on scene, this new program allows them to launch and pilot the machines remotely from docking centers around the city and get drones to scenes minutes before officers arrive. The Chief highlighted the drones help regarding shoplifting cases, which gives officers in the field valuable information about the suspects’ whereabouts. At least one arrest has been made per day with the help of the new technology.
