Mora, NM (KKOB) – Mora County, in northern New Mexico is taking the brunt of the storm engulfing most of the state. The Mora County Sheriff’s Office posted a video (yesterday)Tuesday evening as they responded to a water rescue on Monte Aplanado Road.
The sheriff’s office said they were able to rescue two individuals. The Mora school district said classes will be virtual today (WEDS) because of the flooding, which damaged the gym and recreation room. The superintendent said that although there are some leaky roofs, so far there have been no water leaks into classrooms. At this point, it’s reported that water is completely covering several of the roads south of NM Highway 518, with a few becoming impassable.
The main road to Morphy Lake State Park dangerous and impassable, and the facility is now closed until further notice. The Mora Senior Center is available as an evacuation shelter for anyone who has to leave their homes because of flooding.
