ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Albuquerque Police Department is increasing its presence around Expo New Mexico as thousands of visitors prepare to attend the 2026 New Mexico State Fair.
APD announced a proactive public safety operation that runs through September 20, focusing on maintaining safety, traffic flow, and community engagement around the fairgrounds.
Police say officers will have a visible presence along key corridors, including:
- Central Avenue
- Lomas Boulevard
- San Pedro Drive
- Louisiana Boulevard
- Interstate 40 overpasses near the fairgrounds
“We want our community, business owners, and fairgoers to feel safe and supported throughout the event,” APD Chief Cecily Barker said in a statement.
Officials encourage fairgoers to plan ahead for heavy traffic and seek assistance from officers if needed.
The 2026 New Mexico State Fair runs September 10 through September 20 at Expo New Mexico.
