Albuquerque, NM (KKOB)- An arrest has been made by Albuquerque Police in connection with the fatal stabbing of an elderly man at an apartment in the 900 block of Louisiana SE on Saturday September 5.
Officers had detained 22-year old Aidan Gregg-Kriegel at the scene of the murder after witnesses pointed him out as the possible offender.
According to witnesses, Kriegel, who lives at the complex, was seen with the victim before and after the murder around 7:20 a.m. on Saturday.
The victim, a 72-year-old male, was stabbed several times in the neck and died as a result of his wounds. He has not been identified until family members are notified
During the initial investigation, officers located a small chunk of wood, about 5-6 inches long with a pointed end, near the body that had blood on it.
A neighbor who saw Gregg-Kriegel near the victim in a stairwell, gave him his cell phone and asked him to call 911. Gregg-Kriegel told the 911 call-taker that someone appeared to be stabbed in his apartment building. When asked why he thought the individual had been stabbed, Gregg-Kriegel said, “I see a man laying in a puddle of blood.
Detectives learned that Gregg-Kriegel was involved in disputes with other neighbors in the past month and was charged with misdemeanor battery in one incident.
Gregg-Kriegel is now at the Metropolitan Detention Center on an open count of murder.
