Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – A 17-year old male was dropped off at Presbyterian Hospital with a gunshot wound and later died around 2 a.m. Sunday morning.
APD homicide detectives are now investigating the murder which would be the third homicide in Albuquerque since Friday.
No further details have been released so far as this investigation continues.
On Saturday, APD was investigating the death of an elderly man found dead in an apartment on the 900 block of Louisiana SE. Around 7:30 a.m. an elderly male victim was located with what appeared to be a stab wound. A person was detained according to APD but no further details have been released.
On Friday afternoon, a shooting took place in downtown near a bus stop at 2nd St and Marquette. A man identified as 43-year old Tavis Kimbrough, was shot several times and killed by another man who fled the scene. On Saturday morning, 36-year-old Juan Maestas was arrested near the city bus terminal at Central Ave and Unser. Thanks to quick action by a city bus driver who reported Maestas was on the bus.
APD’s Real Time Crime Center launched a drone to the area and started monitoring surveillance cameras at the Transit Center. APD approached Maestas as he walked toward an arroyo and then started running toward a nearby neighborhood with a handgun in his right hand. Officers ran after Maestas and used a “less-lethal weapon” to take him into custody.
Maestas was also being sought for a shooting at a gas station on the 3600 block of Montgomery Blvd on Wednesday September 2.
The victim in that case said he was driving with his daughter after getting gas when he noticed a man nearby. He then heard 6-8 gunshots and his rear window shattered. The victim drove himself to the hospital after he was shot in the left arm.
In another incident, APD is also charging Maestas for shooting at two security guards outside Presbyterian Hospital overnight Friday to Saturday morning.
A security officer tried to remove Maestas from the property around 12:30 a.m. Saturday and Maestas refused. Police say they got into a fight and Maestas pulled out a handgun, firing it at the officer. A second security guard approached and Maestas pointed the gun at that officer. The officers, who were not armed, disengaged, and Maestas walked away from the hospital. He is now in jail at MDC Sunday morning.
