EDDY COUNTY, N.M. — The Eddy County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this year near the Pecos River.
According to investigators, deputies responded on May 23 to the area of Capitan Reef Road where it crosses the Pecos River after receiving a report of a man who was unconscious and not breathing.
Deputies identified the victim as Nicholas Andres Lucero, 42, who had suffered apparent gunshot wounds.
Following an investigation, detectives arrested Shay Louis Perez, 29, on August 19.
Perez is charged with:
- Voluntary manslaughter
- Tampering with evidence
- Negligent use of a deadly weapon
Sheriff’s officials say the investigation remains ongoing.
