Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – 34-year old Kwamie L’Shuan Williamson was arrested late Monday in connection with the shooting murder of 33-year old Juan Lopez. Lopez was walking with a woman in the 100 block of San Pablo SE around 5:15 a.m. when police say Williamson pulled up next to the couple and was armed with a rifle style firearm and got into a confrontation with Lopez. The woman says Williamson then shot Lopez in the chest. He died later at the hospital. The woman said she knew Williamson who had been harassing her and she had moved three times to avoid him. Detectives identified the red Tesla that Williamson was driving at the time of the homicide. Police, used Automated License Plate Readers and surveillance video throughout the area to track the vehicle. They also uses data from phones, text messages, witness statements and information from recent police encounters to verify Williamson’s identity.
Detectives later discovered that Williamson abandoned the red Tesla in front of a residence in Southeast Albuquerque. Detectives conducted surveillance and SWAT officers arrested him.
Williamson is charged with an open count of murder, conspiracy to commit an open count of murder, aggravated stalking, conspiracy to commit aggravated stalking, tampering with evidence on an open count of murder, and felon in possession of a firearm.
