ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque Fire Rescue says firefighters are responding to more fires this year, with several categories already exceeding last year’s totals.
According to the department, crews had responded to more than 5,700 small outside fires through July, along with approximately 200 structure fires and 420 vehicle fires. All three categories are higher than the numbers reported during the same period in 2025.
AFR also reported responding to 285 vegetation and wildland fires this year. While that total is slightly lower than at this point last year, it remains higher than the number recorded during the same period in 2024.
Fire officials say year-to-year totals can fluctuate because of factors such as weather conditions and fire activity, but the overall demand on firefighters remains consistent.
In addition to fighting fires, AFR crews continue responding to medical emergencies, rescues, hazardous situations and other service calls across Albuquerque.
Officials say the latest figures highlight the ongoing workload facing firefighters as they respond to a wide range of incidents throughout the city.
