Las Cruces, NM (KKOB) – An update to a story we brought to you first on KKOB. A bench warrant is still active for former NMSU basketball player Deshawndre Washington after he failed to appear in court for the start of his trial, Monday.
Washington is facing 15 felony charges stemming from allegations of hazing and sexual assault during the 2022-2023 New Mexico State men’s basketball season. Media reports indicate Washington was playing in a basketball championship game in Lebanon on Monday. His representatives say his absence was caused by travel complications related to security issues in the region, not a refusal to appear.
The trial has been delayed, and it remains unclear when Washington will return to face the charges.
