Taos, NM (KKOB) – While some cities including Albuquerque and Rio Rancho are increasing the use of Flock cameras or license plate reader cameras, one New Mexico town is taking them down and won’t be using them at all. Taos, this week voted to not renew their contract for 18 Flock cameras set up to record car license plates. The $54,000 will now be used for other projects and programs by the Taos Police Department.
Many cities around the country are dropping the use of Flock cameras, with many in those communities saying they infringe on people’s privacy.
Taos Town Council member Darien Fernandez saying, “I think it behooves us to work at all levels of government to ensure that our constitutional privacies are protected in the face of these emerging technologies.”
