Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – The man arrested in a deadly stabbing of his upstairs neighbor over water dripping down to his patio, will remain in jail through the judicial process.
Michael Cain is charged with an open count of murder and tampering with evidence in the stabbing death of 22-year-old Esmeralda Romero.
According to investigators, the stabbing happened after a dispute between Cain and Romero over water dripping from Romero’s upstairs patio onto Cain’s downstairs patio.
Both had made complaints about the other to the leasing office staff at the apartment complex in Northeast Albuquerque.
Just moments before the attack, Romero told the apartment manager the water was coming from her small dog’s water bowl. She also said Cain had gone to her apartment, pounded on her door, and confronted her about the water.
As Romero left the manager’s office, investigators say Cain ran up behind her and repeatedly stabbed her in front of the apartment manager
