ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – Gas prices are continuing to rise across New Mexico, marking a third consecutive week of sharp increases at the pump, according to the latest AAA New Mexico Weekend Gas Watch report.
The statewide average price for a gallon of gas is now $3.83, up 35 cents from just one week ago. Nationally, the average price stands at $3.88 per gallon. AAA says prices have surged as oil continues to trade near $100 a barrel, a significant jump from prices below $70 before the international conflict began in late February.
Compared to this time last year, New Mexicans are now paying about 91 cents more per gallon, while the national average is up 78 cents year over year. AAA notes that fuel prices have been rising by several cents per day, putting added pressure on household budgets and transportation costs across the state.
Among major metropolitan areas in New Mexico, Las Cruces currently has the highest average gas prices at $3.92 per gallon. Santa Fe reports the lowest average among the cities surveyed, at $3.84. AAA warns that if current trends continue, both state and national averages could exceed $4 a gallon in the coming days.
