Santa Fe, NM (KKOB) – Counselors will be available today (Monday) at Santa Fe High School after a 15-year old student was killed in a deadly crash in the San Marcos area off of N.M 14 in Santa Fe County.
The crash happened Saturday night, and according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived at the scene and found two teens who were ejected from the vehicle one of them who was 15 years old, died on the scene. The other teen who is 16- years old is in critical condition at the hospital.
Investigators determined the vehicle likely was traveling over 100 mph northbound on Southfork Road when it failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, and crashing in a field and rolled several times ejecting the occupants.
“It appeared that neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt,” deputies reported.
Deputies obtained a search warrant, according to the report, and took a sample of the 16-year-old driver’s blood. Charges are pending in the case.
Santa Fe High School Principal Jaime Chavez indicated in a message to parents Sunday the deceased teen was a student at the school.
