Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — New Mexico is updating its water laws for the first time in more than a century. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham signed House Bill 111, raising the penalty for water code violations to 34-hundred dollars a day and giving the State Engineer more tools to stop illegal well-drilling. The governor also approved over 522 million dollars in loans for 75 water systems statewide through House Bill 63. Projects include flood control in Sunland Park and water improvements in Ruidoso. That bill took effect this week.
