Alamogordo, NM(KKOB)- A 31-year old Otero County man is in jail without bond charged with an open count of murder for the killing of his girlfriend. Mathew Weems was arrested initially for a burglary charge, but was later charged with murder after the body of his girlfriend Lucinda Rios, was found inside the bathroom of her mobile home. According to Otero County Sheriff’s reports she had been stabbed multiple times. A black folding knife reportedly sat on a countertop nearby. An investigator estimated she had been dead for several hours.
Weems will remain in the Otero County Jail pending an indictment which is expected next month.
