Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The New Mexico Department of Workforce Solutions’ Office of Housing is investing nearly $8 million into its family stabilization program. Previously only available in Albuquerque, Las Cruces, and Santa Fe Public Schools, the program to help school kids facing housing insecurity in New Mexico, is now expanding to cover more school districts. This year, it will be introduced to all four school districts in San Juan County. According to a report from state officials, around 8% of San Juan County students struggle with housing insecurity. The initiation of the program will allow students parents or guardians to receive financial aid on rent, utilities, repairs or other emergencies through their child’s school.
