Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – Two men are now charged with murder for killing a woman in 2020 in West Albuquerque. 32-year old Angelo Cuellar-Salazar and 39-year old Ryan Mathis are charged with the murder of 45-year old Genoveva Paiz in July 2020. Mathis was already in prison for another case.
The murder was related to a scam to get $10,000 in a Covid-19 business loan and lured the victim to participate in the scam. After the shooting, the victim’s body was wrapped with electrical cord, and a swamp cooler cover and stuffed inside a piece of furniture.
The two men had been identified initially for the homicide but charges weren’t filed until a new detective took over the case this year. Cuellar-Salazar, 32, was arrested when he reported to his probation/parole officer.
Mathis initially told homicide detectives in 2020 that he and Cuellar-Salazar organized a scam to obtain a Covid-19 small business loan for $10,000. Mathis said he introduced Paiz to Cuellar-Salazar to use the same scam for more money. Paiz, was shot and killed on July 29, 2020 at Mathis’s home, located at 1015 72nd Pl., N.W.
