ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Registration is now open for Bernalillo County’s 12th Annual Sugar Skull Fun Run, a Día de los Muertos-themed event that combines fitness, family activities, and community celebration.
The event is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 25, along scenic Tingley Drive in Albuquerque between Central Avenue and Eighth Street.
Participants can choose between a timed 5K race or a one-mile Strut and Stroll, which welcomes walkers, strollers, and pets.
The day’s schedule includes:
- 9 a.m.: Timed 5K Run
- 10 a.m.: One-Mile Strut and Stroll
Early registration for the 5K costs $30 for participants ages 12 and older and $15 for children ages 6 to 11. Those prices increase after Sept. 30.
Registration for the one-mile Strut and Stroll is $25 for participants ages 6 and older through race day. Children ages 5 and younger may participate free of charge.
All registered participants will receive the event’s popular Sugar Skull Fun Run shirt, available during packet pickup before the race. Organizers encourage participants to wear Día de los Muertos-inspired attire, although costumes are not required.
In addition to the run and walk, attendees can visit the Muerto Market, which will feature local vendors, artisans, food trucks, and Día de los Muertos-themed merchandise. The market will be open from 8 a.m. to noon.
The annual event has become a popular fall tradition in Albuquerque, drawing runners, walkers, families, and community members for a celebration of culture and outdoor recreation.
