ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico United continued its strong run of form Saturday night, defeating FC Tulsa 1-0 in front of 9,467 fans at Rio Grande Credit Union Field at Isotopes Park.
The victory marked United’s first win over Tulsa since 2023 and helped erase some of the frustration from last season’s Western Conference Final loss to the Oklahoma club.
After more than 80 minutes of scoreless action, New Mexico finally broke through when Greg Hurst converted a penalty kick in the 83rd minute, providing the game’s only goal.
The win was backed by another standout performance from United’s defense. The club recorded its eighth clean sheet of the season and has allowed just six goals since a May loss to the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
“We kind of owe these boys one from last year,” Hurst said after the match. “We’ve grown so much as a team since we played there last year, and I think we’re in such a good spot right now.”
Head Coach Dennis Sanchez said the atmosphere felt like a playoff match and credited the team’s supporters for helping drive the result.
“It very much felt like a playoff game,” Sanchez said. “I hope that every game here from here on out continues to feel like a playoff game because I think this is where the players thrive off of our fans and their energy.”
The victory extends New Mexico’s unbeaten streak to 11 matches and continues a stretch that has seen the club emerge as one of the top teams in the USL Championship.
United now heads east for a matchup with Loudoun United FC. A win in that contest would mark the 100th league victory in franchise history.
After the road trip, New Mexico United will return home for matches against Lexington SC and San Antonio FC.
