Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –A homeowner in a Sandia Heights neighborhood is under investigation for shooting a mama bear in his back yard on Sunday afternoon. The bear and her two cubs have been frequenting the neighborhood for months. The homeowner said he shot the bear over growing concerns for his family and dog as the bears proximity to his home and their brazenness had been increasing. He indicated that he called Fish and Game on numerous occasions but authorities were never able to find the bears. The mama bear survived the shooting but one of her cubs did not as wildlife officers attempted to remove the cubs from the property. The mother and her cub have been relocated. The investigation into the shooting remains active.
