Lordsburg, NM (KKOB) – Cleanup efforts continue near Lordsburg after a freight train derailment involving about 50 rail cars. Officials with Hidalgo County Fire Rescue District 1 say the derailment happened Saturday afternoon near the Interstate 10 corridor, roughly 15 miles east of Lordsburg. Investigators are still working to determine exactly what caused the derailment, though strong winds from a storm that moved through the area are being considered as a possible factor.

No injuries were reported, and crews remain at the scene as cleanup operations continue.
