Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Health officials have confirmed the first deaths connected to a multi-state cyclosporiasis outbreak. The two deaths were reported in Michigan, where more than 11-thousand cases have been identified. Cyclosporiasis is a foodborne illness that can cause severe diarrhea and dehydration. While the outbreak has affected several states, New Mexico health officials say the state has not seen a significant increase in cases and most local infections have been linked to international travel. The CDC and FDA continue investigating the outbreak.
