Edgewood, NM (KKOB) – A Physical Education teacher at Edgwood Middle School is on paid leave and was under investigation by the school district and police after three female students made allegations that he had touched them inappropriately during PE class. After the investigations were done by Edgewood police, they charged the teacher with three counts of criminal sexual contact last week, but the DA’s office dismissed the case saying there wasn’t enough evidence to proceed.
The investigation by the school district began in May and the teacher has been on leave since then. According to the New Mexican, the three girls who accused him of unwanted touching were under the age of 13.
Prosecutors dismissed the charges against the teacher “without prejudice” Friday, four days after Edgewood police filed the case. However, the case could be refiled or presented to a grand jury.
