ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — PNM is expanding its support for nonprofit organizations across New Mexico through a new funding initiative designed to provide more flexible financial assistance to community groups.
The utility’s charitable arm, the PNM Foundation, has launched the Power Grant Program, which will invest $1 million in 2026 to support nonprofits focused on education, environmental programs, and economic opportunity.
According to PNM, the new program combines several previous grant opportunities into a single funding source, allowing the foundation to award fewer but larger grants aimed at creating a greater impact.
So far this year, the foundation has distributed $290,000 to 14 organizations throughout New Mexico, with a particular emphasis on supporting nonprofits serving rural and tribal communities.
Foundation leaders say the Power Grant program is designed to give organizations greater flexibility in how funding is used. Grant recipients may apply funds toward programs, staffing, equipment, or other operational needs.
“We wanted to find a better way to support the organizations doing important work in our communities,” said Ebony Vizcaino, Executive Director of the PNM Foundation, in a statement. “By simplifying our approach, we’re able to invest more deeply and give nonprofits the flexibility to use funding where it’s needed most.”
Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through October, or until available funding is exhausted.
In addition to the Power Grant Program, PNM says it will continue offering matching gift programs, volunteer grants, and emergency assistance funding for community organizations.
