ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico United is continuing its search for a permanent home, with its latest focus on a potential stadium at the state fairgrounds.
The site is part of a proposed $200 million, state-funded revitalization plan aimed at redeveloping the fairgrounds. Team owner Peter Trevisani says securing a permanent stadium is a key step in ensuring the long-term future of the club.
The team is waiting on the state to release a formal request for proposals, which would outline project details and the next steps for development.
New Mexico United has explored several other locations in recent years. Early plans for a stadium at the Albuquerque railyards stalled amid legal challenges. A later proposal at Balloon Fiesta Park also faced pushback, including legal disputes and concerns over land use and the impact on the annual Balloon Fiesta event.
Those challenges have delayed progress, prompting the team to continue evaluating other options.
The United Soccer League requires teams to secure a permanent stadium, although New Mexico United has been granted an extension.
Since 2019, the club has played its home matches at Isotopes Park while continuing its search for a long-term venue. If the fairgrounds project does not move forward, team officials say they could revisit other sites or reevaluate their options.
