ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A pilot escaped injury Thursday morning after making an emergency belly landing at Double Eagle Airport on Albuquerque’s West Side.
According to Albuquerque Fire Rescue, crews were dispatched at approximately 10:36 a.m. to the airport at 7401 Atrisco NW after receiving reports of an aircraft emergency involving a landing gear malfunction.
Officials said the four-seat aircraft experienced problems with its landing gear, forcing the pilot to attempt a gear-up landing.
The pilot, who was the only person on board the aircraft, successfully landed the plane on the runway without its landing gear deployed.
Firefighters with Albuquerque Fire Rescue and Bernalillo County Fire Rescue responded to the scene. Arriving crews found the small aircraft resting on the runway after the belly landing and confirmed there was no active fire.
The pilot told emergency responders he was not injured.
After determining there were no immediate hazards, responding units were released from the scene, and the incident was turned over to airport officials at Double Eagle Airport.
The cause of the landing gear malfunction has not been released.
