ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Albuquerque International Sunport has added another national accolade to its growing list of awards, earning a spot among the nation’s best airports for public art.
The Sunport was ranked No. 10 in the 2026 USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Airport for Art, a competition that began with nominations from travel experts and editors before being decided by a public vote.
The recognition highlights the airport’s extensive art program, which features permanent collections, rotating exhibits, and large-scale installations that showcase New Mexico’s landscapes, cultures, history, and artistic traditions.
Airport officials say the honor reflects years of investment in making the Sunport a destination in its own right. As part of the airport’s ongoing Dream of Flight renovation project, more than $3 million has been dedicated to public art, marking the largest art investment in the airport’s history.
Travelers passing through the Sunport can find artwork throughout the terminal, with additional installations and exhibits expected as renovation work continues.
The latest recognition adds to a series of recent national honors for the Sunport. Last month, the airport was ranked among the top medium-sized airports in North America for customer satisfaction in the J.D. Power rankings. It was also recently named one of the least stressful airports in the United States.
Airport leaders say the goal is to create an experience that introduces visitors to New Mexico’s culture and creativity from the moment they arrive.
