Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –Data from the U.S. Census Bureau indicates New Mexico’ poverty rate has fallen 1.2 percentage points, triple the national average. NM’s official poverty rate fell from 17.2% to 16% in the U.S. Census Bureau’s most recent three year estimates covering 2023 to 2025. The national poverty rate fell by 0.4 percentage points in the same period while poverty rates rose in 16 states. New Mexico also improved its official child poverty ranking from 50th to 48th among all states and D.C. Economic Development NM Secretary, Rob Black said,
“By creating high-paying jobs and expanding opportunity across the state, we’re opening more pathways for New Mexicans to prosper and build a better future.”
