ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Travelers flying through the Albuquerque International Sunport may experience delays after the Federal Aviation Administration issued ground stops Monday at several major airports in the Northeast because of an equipment outage.
The FAA temporarily halted departures bound for Newark Liberty International Airport, Philadelphia International Airport, John F. Kennedy International Airport, and LaGuardia Airport as officials worked to address problems involving air traffic control operations. The agency said the disruptions were linked to issues with frequencies at the Philadelphia TRACON air traffic control facility.
While the Albuquerque International Sunport is not among the airports affected by the ground stop, travelers with connecting flights through the Northeast could see delays, schedule changes, or missed connections as airlines adjust operations.
At one point Monday, arrivals into Philadelphia International Airport were averaging delays of more than two and a half hours, according to FAA data cited in reports on the outage.
The situation also created traffic impacts at other airports across the region as air traffic controllers worked to manage diverted and delayed flights.
