ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — As summer temperatures continue to drive up electricity use across New Mexico, PNM is reminding customers about several programs designed to help manage higher energy bills.
The utility says prolonged heat and increased air conditioning use can cause monthly energy costs to rise, but assistance options are available for customers who need help staying current on their accounts.
Among the programs highlighted by PNM is Budget Billing, which averages a customer’s energy costs over a 12-month period to provide a more predictable monthly bill and reduce seasonal fluctuations.
Customers with past-due balances may also be eligible for payment arrangements, which allow additional flexibility in paying electric bills and can help prevent accounts from becoming more difficult to manage during periods of high energy use.
PNM is also promoting its Good Neighbor Fund, which provides emergency financial assistance to income-qualified customers facing past-due balances or disconnect notices. The program is supported through contributions from customers, employees, and shareholders.
“Summer heat can put real pressure on household budgets, and we want customers to know they have options,” said Mario Cervantes, PNM’s Director of Customer Experience, in a statement.
Utility officials say the programs are intended to provide customers with predictable billing, flexible payment options, and emergency assistance when energy usage is at its highest.
Customers interested in learning more about the available programs can visit PNM’s website or contact the utility directly.
