ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico Hospital has received national recognition from two prominent healthcare ranking organizations for its patient care, healthcare equity, and community impact.
According to the Lown Institute Hospitals Index for 2026-2027, UNM Hospital ranked 24th among 215 academic medical centers nationwide. The nonprofit healthcare think tank also recognized the hospital for its performance in healthcare equity and social responsibility.
Among New Mexico hospitals, UNM Hospital ranked:
- First in community benefit
- First in inclusivity
- Third in pay equity
- Third in social responsibility
The Lown Institute also ranked UNM Hospital among the top 25 healthcare centers in the nation for equity and first in New Mexico in the category, which evaluates a hospital’s commitment to equitable care, inclusion, and community health.
“We are proud to have been recognized as one of the top 25 academic medical centers nationally,” said UNM Hospital CEO Kate Becker. “The providers and staff of UNM Hospital are deeply committed to providing access to quality care for all New Mexicans.”
UNM Hospital also received recognition from U.S. News & World Report, earning its High-Performing Hospital designation for the 2026-2027 rankings.
The publication highlighted the hospital’s care in six areas:
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
- Hip Fracture
- Kidney Failure
- Leukemia
- Lymphoma & Myeloma
- Stroke
Hospital leaders say the rankings reflect both the quality of patient care provided across the state and the institution’s role in training future healthcare professionals and supporting medical research.
