Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The city of Santa Fe has invested $345,000 for a one-year contract for its Shot Spotter system. It’s the second city in the state to implement the technology, following Albuquerque, whose system went live in 2020. Santa Fe’s system covers an area of five square miles around the city. When it detects a gunshot, police are automatically notified. Police Chief Valdez says the investment is paying off. Adding, in the past seven days since they’ve went live, they’ve had five activations. In the vast majority of those cases, our officers were on the scene in one minute or less. Once the alert is received, they can see the location and listen to the recorded sound. While no arrests have been made yet, evidence has already been collected from those incidents, and investigations are ongoing.
