BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. — The final week of early voting is underway in Bernalillo County as the June 2 primary election approaches.
County officials say most of the 21 Voting Convenience Centers are open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Saturday, offering voters a final opportunity to cast ballots early or register on the same day.
As of the latest update, more than 34,000 ballots have already been cast. That includes over 22,000 early in-person votes and more than 12,000 absentee ballots.
Tuesday marks the recommended deadline for returning absentee ballots by mail. After that, officials say voters should return completed ballots in person at voting locations or official drop boxes. Ballots must be received by 7 p.m. on Election Day to be counted.
This election is also the first to operate under New Mexico’s semi-open primary system, allowing voters without a party affiliation to choose either a Democratic or Republican ballot.
Officials expect turnout to increase as Election Day approaches.
