Las Cruces, NM (KKOB) – A 40-year old Las Cruces is facing several charges for shooting at a church in Las Cruces earlier this month. Matthew Alarcon is also facing charges related to an attempted burglary of a gun shop in the city.
On May 11, a Las Cruces police officer spotted Alarcon and another man identified as Juan Manuel Garcia in front of Miller Guns and Ammo and made contact with the two men. During a search of the vehicle they found a handgun and several tools inside leading officers to believe they were going to break into the gun store. After reviewing surveillance video, police were able to match the vehicle as the same vehicle involved in the shooting of the church building at St. Genevieve’s Catholic Church on May 4. Alarcon is charged with felony counts of desecration of a church, receiving a stolen firearm, tampering with evidence, possession of burglary tools, attempted non-residential burglary and two counts of conspiracy.
