Our news partners at KOAT are reporting that on March 3rd a woman was booked into the San Juan County Adult Detention Center on drug charges. Later that day Sarah Giles was arrested after seven other female detainees overdosed on fentanyl according to a San Juan County Sheriff’s Office news release. She was charged with trafficking a controlled substance, fentanyl powder, and bringing contraband into jail. The first overdose was reported before 7pm on March 3rd with a detainee who shared a cell with Giles. The victim was given Narcan and taken to the hospital. Surveillance video showed other detainees using fentanyl with Giles. Six other overdoses happened later that evening. Giles is being held in pretrial detention with a hearing scheduled for June 29th.
