Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –Crews will begin removing woody debris, overgrown brush and small trees below Alto Lake near Ruidoso this week and continue through the end of August. It’s part of recovery efforts tied to the 2024 South Fork Fire that burned almost 18,000 acres in the area. The work will help improve erosion and stabilize burned slopes reducing runoff during rain storms. Officials say trails below the Alto Lake dam including the disc golf course will be temporarily closed during the project. Alto Lake is expected to remain open for fishing during the recovery work.
