ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – Albuquerque Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that happened Tuesday evening on the city’s West Side.
Officers responded around 7:30 p.m. to the intersection of Westside Boulevard and 7 Bar Loop Road NW, where a motorcyclist had crashed into a retaining wall.
According to investigators, the rider was traveling northbound on 7 Bar Loop Road when the motorcycle crossed both lanes of Westside Boulevard, struck a curb, continued over a sidewalk, and then collided with the wall.
The motorcyclist suffered significant injuries and died at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
A witness told police the rider appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed and did not stop at a nearby stop sign before the crash. Investigators say speed and failure to stop are believed to be contributing factors. It remains unclear if impairment played a role.
This is the second fatal motorcycle crash Albuquerque police are investigating this week.
