Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — After a high volume of crashes and an increase in population, the intersection at Agua Fria and Henry Lynch in Santa Fe is due for a remodel, in the form of a circle. According to the project engineer, 5,970 cars pass through that intersection every day, and project leaders said that the current three-way stop is outdated. According to the Santa Fe Metropolitan Planning Organization, there have been about 40 crashes in the past 15 years, two of which involved a pedestrian within the last five years. After decades of studies and meetings, a single lane three-exit roundabout was decided on as a solution. Along with the roundabout, there will be sidewalks and bike lanes as part of the project, designed to connect the neighborhoods and trails nearby. The city and county don’t have funding to build it yet, but are hoping to break ground on the project by the middle of next year. They estimate that construction will cost about $15 million.
