Magdalena, NM (KKOB) – Fire containment operations continue in Socorro County south of Magdalena. The Six Mile Fire began on Friday, and has burned about 400 acres so far and is zero percent contained.
The area affected is terrain of the Magdalena mountains, the Cibola National Forest. Smoke of the fire is visible from south of NM60 as well as from I-25. The cause of the fire is still undetermined. Several fire crews from various agencies are responding in the area and so far the fire is not a threat to any communities.
One issue that fire officials continue to advise the public about is flying drones around wildfires. Drones pose a serious risk to firefighting and can cause air operations to stop because they interfere with aircraft trying to fight tires from the air.
