Santa Fe, NM (KKOB) – The legal battle between the State of New Mexico and Meta is moving into its next phase, with new questions about the company’s future in the state. As the trial continues in Santa Fe, Meta says proposed regulations could make it too difficult to operate its platforms locally, raising the possibility of a shutdown of services like Facebook and Instagram.
New Mexico Attorney General Raul Torrez says that decision would ultimately be up to the company, emphasizing that compliance with the law is another option.
Outside experts are skeptical a full shutdown would happen, noting similar disputes in other countries have often ended in compromise. They add that, if changes do occur, users would likely see disruptions in access or features rather than a complete loss of service.
