Capitan, NM (KKOB) – This Friday and Saturday The Smokey Bear Historical Park celebrates a special Anniversary. 50 years in the making.
“Smokey Bear Days” always a special time to remember the little bear who taught us we could prevent forest fires. This weekend is the 50th anniversary and birthday of Smokey Bear.
Hosted by the park and the New Mexico Forestry Division, this free, two-day festival brings the community together with fire prevention and conservation exhibits, a hometown parade, the annual firefighter challenge, food, vendors, games, and family-friendly activities for all ages.
Manager of the Smokey Bear Historical Park, Mary Lavin says the event Friday and Saturday is family friendly – with a parade, games for kids and adults and the annual firefighter challenge from 10-4 Friday and Saturday in Capitan.
