Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – Bernalillo County commissioners approved a $1.08 billion budget which will include a 1-percent pay increase for county employees when the new fiscal year begins on July 1st.
County manager Cindy Chavez said, they plan on implementing a hiring freeze and using the savings to support the pay increase.
The county now plans on working with workers’ unions to decide how many positions will be subject to the hiring freeze. The budget also included a more than $500,000 annual increase to the city/county library system, and is also making summer programming free at county community centers.
