Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – The Bernalillo Metro Court is continuing to warn the public about a growing toll payment scam spreading through text messages.
Court officials say the latest messages claim the recipient failed to pay a toll and must either appear in court or make an immediate payment or fine using their phone. The texts are labeled as a “Final Court-Ordered Mandatory Collection Notice,” but officials say they are fraudulent. Metro Court notes New Mexico does not have toll roads, which is a key sign the messages are scams. They also say the texts often include spelling errors and incomplete sentences. Court officials emphasize they do not contact individuals by text message or phone regarding charges or payments. Legitimate court notices are only sent through the mail.
