Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –The I-40 Tradeport Corridor project has begun in Albuquerque. The corridor is expected to connect freight movement from the Port of Los Angeles through Arizona and into Albuquerque. Phase 1 in Albuquerque is the first Tradeport hub to start with planning and engineering work beginning now. A Logistics Core Zone will be the first piece of the project to be built. Officials say Albuquerque is ideally positioned with I-40 and I-25 running through the area. Four trade port hubs are planned for the city. Bernalillo county received a $2 million Smart grant to monitor trucks in real time and assess infrastructure and environmental conditions along the corridor. The project is expected to bring thousands of jobs to NM with the build-out taking about three years to complete.
