Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –March is the beginning of irrigation season in New Mexico. However, the Middle Rio Grande Conservancy District believes, as like last year, that runoff is going to be severely limited this year. The MRGCD says they’re considering staggered distributions because the water they do expect to have won’t be available all at once. The conservancy district said irrigators should expect extended periods between deliveries. In addition to the below-average snowpack, New Mexico is also limited by the compact promising water to Texas, preventing the state from storing water. The District says this year could be challenging.
