ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – The Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands has opened its hiring window for seasonal recreation positions, with applications accepted on USAJOBS from February 20 through March 3.
Forest officials say the seasonal workforce plays a key role in maintaining campgrounds, trails, and recreation sites during the busy summer months. Positions available this year include recreation and visitor services roles as well as active resource management jobs across multiple duty stations in New Mexico and Oklahoma.
Seasonal opportunities are available in Tijeras, Grants, Mountainair, Magdalena, and Clayton, along with additional posts in Cheyenne, Oklahoma. Jobs span several federal General Schedule grades, from GS‑3 to GS‑7, and include titles such as Forestry Aid, Forestry Technician, and Recreation Technician.
The Forest Service says these seasonal crews support public access across 1.9 million acres of forest and grasslands. The Cibola’s four New Mexico ranger districts—Sandia, Mountainair, Magdalena and Mt. Taylor—cover more than 1.6 million acres and include four wilderness areas and four National Grasslands.
Officials note that these positions offer hands‑on experience in natural resource work, and may serve as an entry point for long‑term Forest Service careers. Application requirements and start dates vary, and candidates are encouraged to review each posting carefully.
