APD confirms Officer Montoya and K9 Sonic spent the past week in the Bay Area, where they conducted safety checks at multiple facilities tied to the event. Their work supported law‑enforcement teams securing the stadium, transportation hubs, fan zones, and other high‑traffic areas surrounding the game.
Their role was especially important because major sporting events like the Super Bowl draw some of the largest crowds and highest security needs in the country. Bomb‑detection units help sweep venues, screen equipment, and monitor areas where tens of thousands of fans gather. Agencies often bring in trained teams from across the U.S. to expand coverage and ensure no gaps in security during nationally televised events that attract global attention.
APD says they’re proud to have Officer Montoya and Sonic representing both the department and Albuquerque, noting that their specialized training provides an added layer of safety during one of the nation’s most heavily attended weekends.
