Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –Updates to Albuquerque’s zoning code went through major changes Wednesday during discussion in the Land Use, Planning and Zoning Committee. The committee advanced a revamped Integrated Development Ordinance by a slim margin of 3 to 2. Several amendments were removed including allowing duplexes and townhouses in neighborhoods currently zoned for single family homes. Residents opposed to the change say the move would alter a neighborhoods character. Another amendment was removed that would have established an easier permit process for safe outdoor spaces, removing plumbing requirements. The third amendment not to make it would have allowed for convenience or mini grocery mart stores to be built on neighborhood street corners. The measure is now headed to the full council for its approval.
